     Details of West Chicago’s annual Memorial Day Observance have been announced. The Observance will take place on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sailors and Soldiers Monument in Oakwood Cemetery, located at Oakwood Avenue and York Street.


West Chicago’s Acting Mayor Ruben Pineda will speak at the Observance, which calls to mind America’s fallen military personnel and serves as a reminder of the continuing sacrifices being made by the brave men and women in uniform every day.


     This year, members of the American Legion Post 300 and the Ladies Auxiliary are sponsoring the Buddy Poppy program, which benefits disabled veterans who make the red paper poppies. The poppies will be available at several locations throughout West Chicago including Jewel-Osco at 117 East Roosevelt Road, State Bank of Illinois, 600 East Washington Street, and Walgreen’s, 125 North Neltnor Boulevard, on Friday and Saturday, May 25 & 26, 2012. Contributions may also be made directly to American Legion Post 300 Poppy Fund and sent to American Legion Post 300, P.O. Box 28, West Chicago, IL 60185-0028.Contact:
