Commander Eric Shipman Graduates From the 249th Session of the FBI National Academy Program

     City of West Chicago Police Chief Laz Perez is pleased to announce the recent graduation of West Chicago Police Commander Eric Shipman from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia.

     Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program held at the FBI Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. Its mission is "to support, promote, and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world." Training is provided by FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents and other staff members holding advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise.

     "Commander Shipman's successful completion of this training program adds to the collective level of skill and professionalism of the entire West Chicago Police Department. This is high level training which will benefit our entire city. I would like to acknowledge my admiration and extend my congratulations to Commander Shipman on this achievement," said Chief Perez.

     Commander Shipman began his career in West Chicago in 1993 as a police officer. He has worked in various sections of the Police Department including Patrol, Problem-Oriented Policing and Investigations. He has also been a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) instructor and has received certifications as a juvenile officer and gang specialist. Commander Shipman is also a state-certified fire/arson investigator and he continues to serve on the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force.

     His current assignment as Commander of Support Services makes him responsible for the maintenance and repair of police facilities, fleet and equipment. He also oversees the records division, as well as personnel in the Social Services Unit. His educational background includes a certificate in Criminal Justice from Harper College and training from Northwestern University's curriculum on Supervision of Police Personnel, and now graduation from the 249th session of the FBI National Academy Program.
