WeGo Drama at Community High School begins their 2012-13 Season with a premiere of the TONY and Oliver Award winning play RED by John Logan. This powerful one-act play takes us into the 1950’s New York studio of the artist Mark Rothko as he works on a series of paintings with his young assistant. The play looks at the realities of the world around us. Also as part of the evening, there are three short one-acts presented by new directors. Tennessee Williams’ Talk To Me Like The Rain and Let Me Listen explores a relationship struggling to survive during the depression. Not My Cup of Tea by A.F. Groff is a dark-comedy about an eccentric family with murder on their minds. The evening concludes with Donald Zolidis’ witty satire The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon about the silliness of all fairy tales. This evening is an incredible event for Wego Drama as the season celebrates Any Time and Any Place.
New director Cat Canestrelli states that “it's an amazing experience, being able to direct in high school. I know that it will help me in the upcoming years in college and in the business.” Director and performer Dan Stompor adds, “it's an incredibly exciting opportunity to open up our season as the first high school in the nation to ever perform the play Red. I'm so thrilled to work on this show because it is so moving a show, and the fact that we have such a great honor is amazing and humbling at the same time.” Director and performer Josué Muñoz states, “we are all working and creating something really special with this evening. It is really great entertainment and I believe the audiences will be blown-away by it. Everyone should come.”
The company of the evening includes from Carol Stream: Braeden Austgen, Aaron Morden, and Daniel Stompor; from West Chicago: Dayna Bantz, Cassie Ciardullo, Abram Fernandez, Marco Garcia, Lindsey Krysinski, Jackie Letzer, Farrell Lewis, Rosemarie Luthor, Tara Lyne, Josué Muñoz, Ben Skipor, Natalie Sehweil, Zandra Starks, and Noah Watkins; and from Winfield: Josh Brown, Cat Cannestrelli, Sarah Dalla Costa, Melinda Elmazi, and Lindsay Fiegle.
