Record Setting Summer Reading Program @ The West Chicago Public Library District

WC Public Library

The Olympic Games aren’t the only place where records were set this summer. A record-setting 1200 children and 565 adults and teens registered for the summer reading program at the West Chicago Public Library District this summer representing thousands of books read and hours upon hours of enjoyment! Summer reading was truly “sooo delicious” for patrons who filled a diverse offering of programs ranging from kitchen science to Iron Chef, Fear Factor to food art. In keeping with the Library’s “Eat~Move~Read” theme, over 100 enjoyed outdoor games at the weekly Library Lawn Parties.

“I’m thrilled that our annual summer reading program excited and engaged so many of our District patrons,” said Administrative Librarian Melody E. Coleman.  “Our programs and events were designed to encourage us to read, make changes and increase physical activity, and the energy around our building this summer proved it was a great success!”

Kids who completed their reading goals spent a fun-filled afternoon at West Chicago Park District’s Turtle Splash Park, a welcome respite from this summer’s heat.  Teens and adults who met their reading requirements enjoyed drawings for fabulous prizes including an I-Pod Touch, e-readers and gift baskets.

Special thanks to all our generous sponsors who helped make this record-setting summer reading program such a success:  Friends of the West Chicago Public Library District, West Chicago Rotary, State Bank of Illinois-West Chicago, West Chicago Park District, State Representative Mike Fortner, Chuch Strayve Landscaping Ltd., Dr. Richard G.
