A new shop opening in downtown West Chicago is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream that began for Julie Rubio when she was a young child in her native Mexico. Rubio vividly remembers enjoying the typical games of childhood with a favorite cousin, especially playing with dolls and decorating little model homes for them. Making beds out of shoeboxes, vases out of lipstick tubes, or rugs decorated with markers would keep her busy for hours. "I used to make them the most beautiful homes. My cousin would get mad because I was more interested in the decorating than I was with the dolls! I would tell her to be patient because it was all in the little details. I realize now that I was 'playing my dream', a dream of what I wanted to do when I grew up."
Little Details is the name of her new store opening in downtown West Chicago, the city that Rubio has called home for the past 16 years. Located at 100 Arbor Avenue, the business will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday,April 27, 2013 and Sunday, April 28, 2013 with refreshments and a special 10% discount on purchases made at the opening. The store will open at 10:30 a.m. and West Chicago Acting Mayor Ruben Pineda will cut the ceremonial ribbon on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
"We are happy to welcome Little Details. and Julie Rubio into the West Chicago business community. Cutting the ribbon on a new business is always a cause for celebration, especially when it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream," he said. "Let's all start spreading the news that we have a new downtown retail destination in West Chicago.
Little Details will sell small accent furniture, home décor and accessories like handbags and jewelry. Some of the merchandise is re-purposed and some is new. What makes Rubio's new business unique is the way in which she positions individual pieces in beautifully appointed vignettes which represent her sense of style and affinity for decorating. Shoppers will learn how to mix and match new finds with their existing décor to create refreshed, updated spaces.
While Rubio recognizes that real-world retail is a far cry from child's play and admits to receiving tremendous help from her supportive husband Jesus, 12-year old sister, two brothers, stepfather and family in Mexico and many friends; she also understands the value in doing what you love. Her mother a successful entrepreneur, owned resale businesses her whole life. Rubio watched her mother's joy in talking to people and making friends through her businesses, admitting that there was never a day when she didn't have a smile on her face. After battling leukemia for three years, her mother passed away a year and a half ago. "Life is short. We have to enjoy every piece of living it, being with those we love and doing what we enjoy. I want to follow in my mother's footsteps," she said. "After all, it's the 'little details' that make all the difference in life!"
Regular business hours for Little Details will be Monday - Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.littledetailswc.com."
